Colour (And the psychology behind it)

Colours aren’t just pretty; they pack a punch!

Using them to break up titles or text blocks can make it easier to stay engaged. Plus, did you know, different colours evoke different emotions? Blue can be calming, while red might give a sense of urgency. A well-thought-out colour scheme can guide your readers’ feelings and reactions to your content.

💡Pro tip! Give the reader instant brand recognition by continuing your brand colours into other platforms, like within your emails or even in your social posts. It’s a small step that goes a long way to helping people instantly recognize your brand (whether consciously or subconsciously).

High-Quality Images

When you’re looking to grab attention, high-quality images are your go-to.

There’s something about a fuzzy, poorly lit image that screams DIY (and not in the good way.)

Go for images that are sharp and visually fit your message perfectly. Ideally, these should be your own images instead of stock photos, because they will not only make your content look good but also make it easier for people to relate to your brand and connect. Having your own brand images will make you money in the long run! Trust me, you’ll thank yourself later.

GIFs

GIFs are a fun, versatile tool! They can break up text, illustrate points, or add a dash of humour. (Find them here)

Use GIFs strategically to highlight important information or demonstrate processes effectively. Just make sure they align with your message and don’t overdo it – a little goes a long way!

Emojis

Using emojis in writing can grab and keep the reader’s attention by adding a visual element that makes the text more engaging and relatable. (Have you noticed I love them? 😍)

Emojis can convey emotions and tone quickly, helping to break up long blocks of text and make the content more appealing and easier to understand.

White Space and Simplicity

Even though I’m advocating for colour and imagery, don’t forget that less is usually more, so you want to save some space for white space (or negative space).

Make sure you have space on the page. (Ever wonder why I break up most of my paragraphs??)

It prevents visual clutter and helps important elements stand out. Think of it as giving your content some breathing room.

A clean, simple design enhances clarity and makes your message easier to digest.

Accessibility Considerations

Making your content visually accessible is really important. You want everyone to be able to enjoy what you create, so keep in mind folks with visual impairments.

On platforms like websites and email, you can add “alt text” to your images. Alt text verbally describes an image. It helps visually impaired people understand the image, helps search engines know what the image is about, and also shows up if the image doesn’t load.

In social posts, you may have seen some people add a description of what’s happening in the image at the end of their caption.

These options help screen readers describe the visuals to those who can’t see them.

TODAY’S TASK
